Youth Programs
We always welcome youth participation in our fundraising activities listed at the bottom of this page. Additionally, we do have some very limited positions for volunteers under 18.
Please note that a minimum time commitment of 6 months is required for certain volunteer positions.
Teens 15 or older
Those 15+ (14+ if a parent is present during shifts) are eligible to volunteer in regular cat care & enrichment shifts or occasional cleaning help. Please note, these opportunities are limited & fill up very fast. Please contact our Shelter Operations Supervisor at the email below for more information. As of 9/2023, evening and weekend shifts are fully staffed.
18+
Please note, our insurance policy stipulates that volunteers must be at least 18 years of age in order to work with our resident shelter dogs.

Learn about what an animal shelter does and see some of the adoptable cats, dogs...and maybe rabbits or other small creatures who are waiting for new homes. Tours include a take home activity, which if completed and mailed back to the shelter, will earn participants a Homeless Animal Hero certificate.
Great for Scouts, Clubs, or other groups.

Ages 13 - 18
Do you have a creative idea for a fundraiser or project to benefit the shelter? We want to hear it! Pitch us your idea and we will support you in your journey to successfully accomplish your idea to help raise money, goods or awareness to the shelter or to one of the shelter’s programs.
If desired, interns can also attend a virtual Fundraising Committee meeting to gain more experience as well as to potentially help table SAS fundraising events when safe to do so again.

If they purchase it on Amazon at the link below, they can choose for it be automatically shipped to us. Or, you can bring in all the donated items directly to the shelter and we will take a photo of you and post it on social media to thank you!
