Ages 13 - 18

Do you have a creative idea for a fundraiser or project to benefit the shelter? We want to hear it! Pitch us your idea and we will support you in your journey to successfully accomplish your idea to help raise money, goods or awareness to the shelter or to one of the shelter’s programs.

The fundraiser or event could potentially be hosted on our property to bring awareness and/or donations to SAS. If desired, interns can also attend a Fundraising Committee meeting to gain more experience and learn more about this field of work as well as help table SAS fundraising events.

There is a short application process for each internship, and each internship session will last approximately 3 months.

Book Buddies Reading Program

image6

Ages 5 -11

Coming soon!

The Book Buddies program at SAS provides children aged 5-11* with the opportunity to improve their reading skills and boost their confidence by reading to our nonjudgmental cats, dogs or small animals.

Research shows that reading to animals has a positive impact on both the children and animals; children who read aloud to animals have increased their reading proficiency while fearful and/or shy animals become more comfortable with humans because there is no forced interaction.

This program will be offered on select evenings in ½ hour increments between 5:00pm-7:00pm.  Due to the program’s popularity, we currently limit each child to 5 reading sessions, and you must schedule your reading times in advance.

If you would like more information about this program (or have a child outside of the ages of 5-11 who you feel would benefit from the program), please contact kellygibson@scituateanimalshelter.org.
